Our Building
Chapel Hill was started in 1959. The
building was designed by Brown & Chapman Architects of
Dallas,
and built in 1961, long
before I-635 was even built!

The sanctuary is designed to represent an ark turned upside
down for shelter. Look up at the ceiling and support
beams and you can feel it!

Now look carefully at the front of the sanctuary. Can
you see the water running off the front of the ark?
The Cross was gilded by Michael Salas, a charter member who,
with his wife still attends CHUMC.

The small stained glass windows in the ceiling cast rainbows
of color on us as we worship reminding us of God's covenant
mentioned in Genesis.
The
main stained glass window in the sanctuary features the boat
and cross that is evident throughout our building. It
was designed a
member of the church.
When you visit us, explore and see if you can find the other
large stained glass window. It was originally opposite
the "boat" stained glass before the Fellowship Hall was
added on.

The Dancers were also designed by a church member.
They represent caring, sharing and loving, tenants of the
community here at CHUMC. They are over the door to welcome all as they enter through
the awning covered side entrance.

Christian symbols adorn the main entrance next to the
sanctuary. The Chi Rho, the Dove and the hand pointing
to heaven were all designed by a church member to help
congregants get into a worshipful frame of mind as they
enter the doors. For more information about Christian
symbols and their meaning,

There are many other symbols built into our building, come
and explore, ask long time members, we'll be glad to share
more of our heritage with you.
