In the classes I am taking to be a certified Intentional Interim Minister, we are required to write a paper on a case study. The case study I have chosen is to listen to many year Methodists and hear how we cope with or handle the many changes in pastorate that come our way in the Methodist itinerancy system.

I asked for your help, Chapel Hill. I invited anyone who wished to tell me their thoughts on this subject to join me after church to briefly share with me how they feel about change in pastors and how they have experienced this event as Methodist members through the years.

If you did not get a chance to come and talk with me, please send me a note or e-mail and share with me how it feels to have one pastor leave and another step in. One person was so appreciative of being asked for their input. They said in all their lives as Methodists, no one had ever asked how members feel about this system. Thank you for your input. I welcome any other comments on the subject.

Tell Me The Stories... The Great God Adventure was indeed a great adventure for 34 campers, 3rd thru 5th grades, nine counselors, along with camp directors, Ms. Scottie and Ms. Karen. Our Chapel Hill UMC choir campers this year are Madeleine, Morgan, Glorie, Aubrey, Sarah, Jaidyn, and Leslie. They learned songs and Scripture that tell how we belong to God (Isaiah 43:1), God created the world and created us (Genesis 1-2), God's Word is Holy and we can trust God's Plan (Exodus 3:5, Genesis 6:13 and 14, Matthew 4:1), God is Awesome and Everywhere (Exodus 3:14), Names of God (Luke 11:2, Psalm 18:2, Psalm 23:1, Psalm 28:7, Genesis 18:25, Genesis 18:25, 1 John 4:8, and 1 John 1:5), Walking with God (Isaiah 12:2), Loving and Praising God and God's creation (Micah 6:8, Psalm 150, and Isaiah 12:4 -5).

O what beautiful music the campers made to praise God singing... Sanctuary, God is Here, Festival Alleluia, Forty Days and Forty Nights, When You Pass through the Waters, Goliath, Prayer of Peace and My Father's House.

And, mark your calendars for the 2nd week in June 2014... Elementary choir camp is always the 2nd week in June!! Am pretty sure that Chapel Hill UMC will have four returning campers and a counselor.

Pool Party

The Elementary Sunday School Class will be having a Pool Party at Janet and Steve's house!

Date: Sunday, June 30, 2013
Time: 12:00 pm-ish to 3:00 pm

You can go over anytime after the reception for JoNell.

Please bring your swim bag with you. You will need a swim suit, towel, and sunscreen. There will be sandwiches and snacks.

The teachers and parents are encouraged to stay also. You may bring your swimsuit or just sit on the patio. Either way it will be a fun afternoon.

Project Transformation Reading Volunteers

This is a key component of the program. You can help unlock a child's love of reading. The first step is to sign up on the registration sheet. If you have not completed Ministry Safe, please include your e-mail. You must have this complete before you do the training. Training is at 9:30 on Mondays throughout the program. You may come to any of these, on a week you are volunteering; you only have to do it once.

Chapel Hill's week is July 15-18, 2013. However you may set up a schedule with Emily to volunteer more frequently, based on their needs. After you have done the training you should come at 9:50.

Punctuality is appreciated. It is best to have 10-15 volunteers each week, so when it is not our turn we will let the scheduled church's volunteers go first.

Your responsibilities will be to sit and listen to a child read, giving encouragement and help as needed. Chairs are provided this year for those who do not want to sit on the floor. If you use a walker and would like a wheel chair, we can provide that too.

Business Executives with the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce held the Annual Business and Career EXPO on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. This is the 5th year that Chapel Hill UMC has been invited to have a table where we can showcase many of the activities that we hold in the community, as well as at the church.

We get an opportunity to showcase Chapel Hill UMC with an online website presentation and deliver baskets of food from our Community Garden with aromas that draw people to our table so we can engage attendees in conversation. At the conclusion of the EXPO, we deliver the food we have showcased to the Metrocrest Food Bank, as well as promote our Labyrinth for guests to take a prayer walk outside the church. In addition, we offer a Prayer Box to accept Prayer Requests from attendees who request prayer, and have the opportunity to showcase our involvement with the many other organizations in our community.

As you know, Chapel Hill UMC has always been ACTIVE in the Metroplex communities and elsewhere. This year, Kandy Burdette, Nancy Hartman and Sherry Vineyard gathered veggies and herbs and flowers in baskets which were enjoyed by everyone at the event. Nancy and Sherry created the veggie baskets and set up the table to draw attendees to hear about Chapel Hill UMC's work and contributions in the community, as well as to invite people to come and attend services, both indoors and outdoors with us. This is a great way to exercise "old-time Evangelism." Anyone active here at Chapel Hill UMC that remembers the rural community churches with box lunches that were auctioned to the highest bidder? This is a variation on the theme. Box lunches were served for our lunch.

The Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce is a wonderful place to share events about Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and the community love that exists on our hallowed grounds. What a blessing to share information and events about CHUMC with our community!

Children’s Choir Camp

Thanks to your generosity, Chapel Hill sent seven young ladies to children’s choir camp in Bridgeport. They got to learn new songs of praise as well as try their hand at recorders, handbells, and other instruments. Praise be to God for this unique and fulfilling opportunity. Special thanks goes to Iris Shivar for her selfless help in coordinating paperwork and parent communication (and for being a camp counselor, too!), and to Angela Romine for making the trip in the van with us.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir will finish a successful year on June 30, 2013 and will take the month of July off. Rehearsals will resume July 31, 2013 at 7:30 in the choir room. If you have been wanting to try singing in the choir, why not start fresh with the rest of us? All you need is a willing spirit and a desire to praise God through music.

Calling All Instrumentalists!

Do you play an instrument? My grandmother’s response to this question was always, “I can play the radio!” I’m looking for people with a little more experience than that. Ha! If you were in band or orchestra at some point (or are now) and would like to try playing again, please let me know. I would love to employ the MANY talents of our congregation.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your generous and continued support of our ministry. Our mission is to serve the needs of the community by providing the basic necessities of food, clothing, social services and spiritual development. As a supporter of Breadbasket, your donations are of utmost importance in allowing us to administer the love and care to those who need it most.

The last three years have been particularly difficult for many. Corporate downsizing has left many without jobs, and homeless in some instances, and the most vulnerable of our citizens are experiencing the greatest hardships. As a result, the number of people seeking the help of the Methodism Breadbasket ministry has been increasing.

So again, I appreciate your support, Dawn Self, the Children’s Ministry, and all of the other people who have contributed. We are asking for your continued support of an outreach ministry that tries to emulate the spirit of Christ, so that we can keep pace with the demands of those in need.

The Metrocrest Social Services program, Sack Summer Hunger is about to begin! If you like real hands-on, local ministry, this is for you.

The program this year will feed over 1,300 children (double from last year), so there is a real need for lots of help.

All Saturdays from June 15, 2013 through August 10, 2013 are open, and I will be working in the warehouse preparing sacks on June 15, June 22, and July 7, 2013.

Please sign up and join me from 7:15 AM to 10:00 AM. There will be a sign up sheet and map available on Sunday.

We are in the planning stages! Watch out for the VBS bulletin board to appear, before too long. It will have the volunteer opportunities and items needed for donation. I hope you are excited! We are having God’s World Fun Fair!

Volunteer Opportunities

1. I still need a second person for Summer Sunday School for the 3-6 year old class. Contact me and I will talk to you about dates available to help out.


2. We still need a group to sign up for August Sunday School for the 1st-5th graders. I have lessons. You will need at least 2-4 people to teach each week.


3. The list is still out on the table for Project Transformation reading volunteers. If you did not get the sign up sheet when it was going around, it is not too late. I will be contacting anyone who signed up, but still needs to complete an aspect of MinistrySafe.

The newest Evangelism tool is hanging above the drinking fountain in the hallway. Here is a golden opportunity to open our doors even wider to guests with our newest technology tool and appeal to a younger generation. I want to especially thank Jonathan Sanborn for quite a few hours of formatting and getting us up and running. I want to thank Jack Portman for all of his help in this project and to Ilene and Dave Oldfield our co-chairs of Evangelism in their forward thinking and adding this new tool for the church’s use.
