Adult Bible Study (ABS)

The Adult Bible Study (ABS) committee is a joint effort between the ABS Coordinator and the Chapel Hill UMC Minister who meet in September to set up the annual study calendar and then meet periodically to review quarterly activity. Selected Adult Bible Study courses of varying lengths are presented for Chapel Hill UMC adults.
The Disciple Bible Study, I - IV study series is popular at Chapel Hill UMC, as well as Invitation to the Old Testament and Invitation to the New Testament, both the 30-week studies, as well as the shorter 8-week studies.
Adult Bible Study uses books, videos, CD's, workbooks, etc. Bible Study classes offer in-depth personal growth through group Bible study for all class sizes. Classes may be as short as 6-weeks in duration or as long as 30 sessions. Bible study is one of the most powerful things you can bring into your life.
Examples of
How Bible Study can Impact an Individual's Life
Example 1: In a study presented at Chapel Hill UMC, titled God, Can We Talk? The class learned how to deliver prayer in five major ways. Out of that study class, several individuals began a prayer group.
Example 2: A second prayer group started prayer activity first, brought in a prayer study titled, The Workbook of Living Prayer, and after a few months developed into an on-going "Living Prayer" group calling for others to join with them.
Example 3: Another example of how Bible study can be powerful points up what can happen when a Bible Study really connects with a couple. Following completion of the 30-lesson Christian Believer study, one couple was committed enough when the call came to head up the building of a prayer labyrinth, which will be completed and dedicated in mid-year 2009, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Chapel Hill UMC.
