Congratulations and welcome to our newest members from the 2012 Confirmation Class!

Each of these young Christians bring gifts and graces to our body of Christ at Chapel Hill.

Riley Dobbs brings the gift of curiosity and encouragement and joy.

Brayson Hansen brings the gift of energy and leadership and love.

Isaac Self brings the gift of thoughtfulness and certitude and persistence.

Harper Steyer brings the gift of the spirit of calmness and gentleness and understanding.

Jackson Steyer brings the gift of perception and deep thought and kindness and patience.

Jack Tolle brings the gift of creativity and compassion and intuitiveness.

Alex Young brings the gift of sensitivity to others and faithfulness and gentleness.

What a gift of blessings we receive!

It may seem like graduation from Confirmation Class to these new confirmands, but it is just the beginning of a new life in Christ with the companionship of every member of the congregation walking beside them to support and love them in every event of their young lives.

Friday, April 13th a group of 12 confirmands, parents and members of Chapel Hill hopped on the van and joined our Jewish friends for worship at Temple EmanuEl.

We have been learning about our Jewish roots and how our faith is grounded in and born out of the Jewish faith. Judaism was the faith of Jesus and the faith of the first Christians. The Gentiles embraced this new Christianity even stronger than the Jews of Jesus’ day and spread the Good News all over the world.

We learned that every Temple/Synagogue will always have an image of the Ten Commandments, a menorah, and an eternal light present at the front of the congregation.

We enjoyed our time together with our new Jewish friends and learned more about our church history.

As soon as you read this, pick up the phone or e-mail me to let me know that you are interested in going along with the confirmands to this once a year opportunity to worship with our Jewish neighbors at Temple Emanu El.

We will gather at the church at 5:00 and travel together in our new church van. The tour is at 5:30 and the service is at 6:15pm. The service will last about an hour. Hope you can come.

What a great class of confirmands we have at Chapel Hill. This past Sunday we examined together the meaning of our Christian Worship Service, its component parts and how worship is different than it was in Jesus’ time. We learned that the word Worship has as its root worth. We praise God in our worship service because our God is worthy. April 13th we will worship with our Jewish sisters and brothers at Temple EmanuEl. We invite any member of Chapel Hill to come with us for a wonderful opportunity to experience a beautiful Shabbot.

I was very proud of the fine leadership our confirmands showed forth in being the crucifer, acolytes and communion servers this past Sunday. Thank you each very much. We will see our other confirmands in leadership roles in the near future as we worship together with our young church.

The Confirmation Class will be attending worship at Temple Emanu El on Friday, April 13. We welcome anyone who would like to come with us. We will leave from the church at 4:50pm to arrive at Temple at 5:15 for the docents’ tour and lesson about the Temple. The service begins at 6:15 pm if you wish to join us there.

The Temple is located at the corner of Hillcrest and Northwest Highway. It is a great opportunity to experience a Jewish worship service. Please pray and ponder about this opportunity and let me know as soon as possible. We may be able to take the van and go together.

Confirmation classes are in full swing. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to spend time with these 9 young people who are finding their way on their faith journeys.

We are learning about the two Sacraments of the Methodist Church; Baptism and Communion. Members of our Confirmation class will be assisting in serving Communion on Palm Sunday. Their energy and enthusiasm for learning together about our great God is exciting.

Sunday, February 19, six of our nine confirmands hopped on a van with Heidi Tolle and myself to head out to Trietsch Memorial UMC for the annual Confirmation Celebration event.

We were joined by about 1,000 other confirmands and sponsors and invited to a fabulous party. We jumped in the giant bounce houses, ate a ton of pizza, learned about how it feels to have malaria and how we can help with eliminating malaria in Africa, laughed with a really funny spiritual comedian, made crafts, danced with a Disney team, and "shined" out our lights at the communion service with Bishop Bledsoe.

We have an exemplary confirmation class. I thank God for each of them.

We are 9 members strong and really digging into some great faith learning. Ask any Confirmand anything about God and they’ll be able to tell you. Well, maybe almost anything. Sunday was tight learning about our God the creator, the lover, the forgiver, the Messiah, the Spirit, the personal counselor, etc……

We are looking forward to travelling to Trietsche UMC on Feb. 19 for Confirmation Celebration with about 1,000 other Confirmands and Bishop Bledsoe. Pizza will be consumed, songs will be sung and games will be played and friends will be made. What fun. Glory be to God!!!

We are excited to add two new confirmands to our group. Harper and Jackson are friends of Riley. Sunday, we learned more about the history of the Methodist Church in America. We were introduced to the Methodist Church's founding father, John Wesley. Claim the Name, our curriculum, has a unique "clay-mation" film about the history of American Methodists which we all enjoyed. John Wesley said that the essence of being a Methodist was holiness of heart and life. The love of God is the root of holiness and it comes from our relationship with God.

The great 2012 Confirmation Class is on a roll. We’ve begun our studies with a general understanding of some church history and how important the church buildings were to the early Christians. We are enjoying lively discussions and will learn more about Methodism next Sunday.

We meet on Sunday mornings at 9:00am to 10:00am. Please pray about the possibility of offering your self to one of these young Christians as a friend in faith. You simply offer to spend a little one on one time with one of the confirmands to help with a mission project or go for an ice cream and establish a caring relationship.
