April 11, 2014: Did You Know? Norma and Charlie Wood

Norma and Charlie Wood joined Chapel Hill in 1962 when they moved to Farmers Branch. They are originally from Tennessee. They have been married 62 years and have two boys and two wonderful daughters-in-law. They are blessed with 5 grandchildren and are expecting their first great grandchild this year. Charlie comes from a family of eight children and Norma is an only child.

They have always stayed active in a variety of ways such as with many hobbies. Norma loves traveling, shopping, eating out, reading, and theater. Charlie loves traveling, old movies, cards, fixing up old houses, and theater.

They have both continued to be involved in a variety of church activities. Norma has held several offices in the United Methodist Women and is currently secretary of the UMW board and a member of the Mary Martha Circle. She is on the Family Life Committee and on the Memorial Committee and you can find her cleaning up the sanctuary on most Sundays, working on the newsletter with the “Holy Folders” on Tuesday morning, and cleaning the parlor on clean-up days. She has served on the Outreach Committee, taught Sunday school and helped with Vacation Bible School in the past, and delivered Meals on Wheels when working with the Ronald McDonald House. She is presently a member of the Farmers Branch Woman’s Club.

Charlie retired as Vice President of a trucking company. He is currently in the real estate business. He has in the past donated homes to Builders of Hope. He has served on Trustees, is an usher and has been chairman of the Administrative Board of Chapel Hill. He has been a member of several transportation clubs and volunteers at the Senior Adult Service Center. He played basketball and softball with our Chapel Hill sports teams.

As you can tell, Charlie and Norma have played a huge role in making Chapel Hill the caring, loving, and sharing church that it is today. Take time to tell them how blessed we are to have them in our extended Chapel Hill family.
