Vacation Bible School was a huge success, thanks to the many dedicated Chapel Hill members and youth volunteers. We had 43 youth and adults register to help with VBS. We had 40 children register for VBS, although no more than 33 came on the same night and 6 never showed up. Our goal was to serve 40 children! But, more importantly than any numbers was the joy, laughter, and love that was shared. This church can really share the love. That can be our biggest strength.
The kids loved the activities in Discovery Lab and Art. They made a lava lamp, learned how to use a pulley, made a rainbow as a group, made terrariums, and made important learning connections to the Bible lessons. The kids learned all about Esther and her struggles during Bible Story time. They learned how they can walk with God no matter what situation they are placed in. During games the kids not only ran off some of that energy, they learned about symbols from the Bible stories and learned important connections to their lives. The kids truly enjoyed the funny characters in the skit and video each night, with Sandy Paper and Rivet.
There was a little groaning from the older kids in the group when we announced music time, but it turns out that most of them really liked to sing and dance the motions to the songs after all. When you combine fun music with great leaders the kids have a great time. The dinners were great, thanks to all of the classes that cooked and served the volunteers and children. Many of our volunteers came straight from work and appreciated not having to grab fast food on the way. Thanks for the extra effort for our 6 vegetarians. They appreciated having the opportunity to eat with the group. There is nothing like sharing a meal to encourage fellowship.
If any church member would like to write some personal follow up notes to the kids they are welcome to do that; it can be a great way to keep the connection with these families. Enjoy the picture (more will be online in the next week so check our website).
