May 30, 2014: Epiphany News

Epiphany crossBy David Ricks

Saturday, I was in Austin, TX,  at a quarterly meeting of the Texas Epiphany State Board. The ride to Austin at zero dark thirty was without incident or smells (no horse or cow trucks), but I did see a lot of the color orange the closer I got to Austin. We had prayer and an epiphany band (husband and wife) music team that lead worship and a visitor from TJJD who informed us that there will be more youth prison closing because of budget reasons; but the speaker also told us how God and Epiphany has had a positive effect on the incarcerated boys and girls across the state of Texas. I gave my report from the weekend in Mart, Texas, and mentioned Chapel Hill “Hands On Mission.” This was when we took the cross outside of the church and spent time in prayer for the boys.

My close to Christ moment was when I informed the board that I have a generous donation from the Chapel Hill UMW and requested that it be divided between the last seven remaining youth prison units in Texas. The Board approved the request. The funds will be given to the Epiphany UAC (Unit Advisory Committee) at the unit for supplies, reunion gatherings (i.e. socks, cookies, toothbrushes, pencils, bibles, books for devotionals), and mentoring.

John 1:12-13 states… “Those who receive salvation become God’s children.”

In His Hands,
David Ricks

EPHESIANS 3:18

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
