June 30, 2015: Note from Pastor Mai

I’ll be away from the church office, beginning July 6 through July 30, attending classes in Christian Spirituality at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. The Book of Discipline (par. 351.2) suggests that pastors take off one month during one year of every quadrennial for continuing education and spiritual growth program.

Many of you probably remember that this is the trip I had planned to take last July, but was cancelled due to the sudden illness of Josh Cunningham. And so, I hope my plan to go back to Creighton this July to finish this study will be a wonderful reality.

In my absence, I’ve asked Rev. Denise Peckham from Christ United Methodist Church in Plano (July 6 to July 23) and Rev. Anna Hoseman-Butler from Oak Lawn UMC (July 24) to be the pastor on-call for all emergency pastoral care. The church office and SPRC Chair have Rev. Peckham’s and Rev. Anna Hoseman-Butler’s contact information.

In addition, I’ve asked Dave Oldfield, Robert Putnam, and Lee Willhite to be on call on emergency matters that are beyond the areas of pastoral care, trustee, or finance.

The Project Transformation interns are well equipped to deal with all emergency matters concerning PT children and families. They also have the strong support from the PT office in Dallas.

As for worship, Isiak Holiday Jr. will be the worship leader, acting on my behalf during this time.

For all other matters, please contact the church office.

I hope you have a very good time as our nation celebrates July Fourth. God is in our midst and will sustain us during this time of rest for some and labor for others. I will miss you a lot, but I trust that the work I do in the next couple of weeks, away from the church office, is the work needed for me to live and to serve as a faithful and effective pastor.

With much blessings on you,

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
