During the Annual Conference, the Bishop mentioned the importance of building one-to-one relationships with local schools. The goal is to mentor, tutor, and read to school kids.
This summer, Dallas ISD is opening 37 of their school libraries so that kids and parents have a place to access books. This effort is to help maintain and improve the kids reading literacy skills over the summer.
We are asking the Metro District United Methodist churches to provide volunteers to read to students for at least one hour a week during the summer school session.
Point persons for this are:
Wil Murphy – North Texas Annual Conference Office
Gay Patrick – DISD; Library Media Services Director
