A Cloud of Witnesses

Hebrews 12:1 has always been one of my favorite scriptures, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is laid out before us.”  I love the image of all the saints who have gone before being a cloud of witnesses that surrounds us.

The Memorial Committee is remembering three of our saints with crosses that will be hung on one of our cross boards.  They are Michael and Lily Salas and Maxine Osburn.

The cross, in the picture with the red background, is for Maxine. Maxine was a “rock” that supported and loved our church for many years, living her pledge to serve it with her prays, presence, gifts, service, and witness.  A perfect example of the pledge we all take as members.

Micheal and Lily Salas were Charter Members of this church. Lily served for many years as our communion steward. Their years of humble, faithful service were a picture for us of lives lived in servanthood to Christ and the church.  Their cross was formed by a potter. As we witnessed, their lives were examples of lives shaped by the Great Potter.

As we remember all of our saints on All Saints Sunday, let us remember the example set by these three beloved witnesses and “Let us go and do likewise.”

EPHESIANS 3:18

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
