The tree was decorated. The poinsettias were in full bloom. The bells rang and the drums were evident. Then we settled into the story of Mary and Joseph and the journey to Bethlehem for the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. It is a beautiful story showing the acceptance of an angel’s directive to Mary and how Joseph, so full of mixed emotions, stood in the gap and through his sometimes faltering faith, adhered to his part in this birth. Our advent bible study dovetailed with the music so beautifully. We were once again graced with such talented musicians and a choir beyond belief. To Kevin Patterson, our narrator extraordinaire, we say thank you for sharing one of your many spiritual gifts. To David Lee, we say once again how blessed we have been to have you in our lives. We are sad that you will be taking a different path, but you are faithful to God’s plan for you. A big plus is your family will be whole again and in worship together. We say simply, “Go with God and follow this new plan,” and thanks for the memories. We may not have as many members or children as in days past, but one thing was clear last Sunday: Our candle still burns. It may flicker, but it has not been extinguished. When troubling times enter our lives, we still pull together, and we show love and compassion for one another. This is our greatest commandment. So, may your Christmas be merry and your New Year full of blessings and surprises.
