New Sermon Series: A Recipe for Worship

Sermon Series: ‘A Recipe for Worship’

19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

— John 4:19-26 New International Version (NIV)

Every week (mostly on Sunday mornings), believers all over this planet gather together.  It is my belief, my hope, that these gatherings are for the purpose of worship.   In fact, worship is something all Christians do… or maybe I should say,  ‘should do’.  Some of us use our Sunday morning gatherings as an opportunity to socialize.  Some of us gather to enjoy a meal together.  Some of us gather to critique the pastor and her sermon.  And some of us actually gather to praise, to worship and to encounter God.

While each of these reasons for gathering on Sunday morning may be legitimate, in this sermon series we will focus on the latter.  We will offer A Recipe for Worship that will assist those who have come to worship.  And will help those who have come for other reasons.  It is my hope that this sermon series will help all of us encounter God in a more meaningful way, through our worship. -Pastor Odom

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
