You will recall we held a pair of all church meetings earlier this year to discuss what was then a proposed transition to a single board model of local church administration. After that discussion, the transition was approved unanimously at our annual Charge Conference on October 18. Everyone present was allowed to vote as the Charge Conference members approved converting the meeting to a Church Conference in which all professing members who attended were granted voice and vote, as occurs at every Chapel Hill UMC Charge Conference.
While the single board members appointed at Charge Conference do not start their administrative work, per se, until January, the group, along with two additional CHUMC members, have begun working on bylaws that will govern how the single board model of administration functions at CHUMC. These bylaws will lay clear guidelines for this group that will handle the role of Church Council, Trustees, Finance, and Staff-Parish Relations. As you may recall, Nominations and Leadership Development remains separate.
You can anticipate an all church meeting in January 2022 where we will discuss the final draft of these bylaws and seek to finalize this document as we launch into the single board model. Please continue to be in prayer for this group and CHUMC as we continue through this process.
