Pastor’s Message: Feb. 8, 2021

Franciscan friar Richard Rohr of the Center for Action and Contemplation writes, “Love is the energy that sustains the universe, moving everything toward resurrection.”

Love is that self-giving approach to life revealed to us in the Triune God embodied in Jesus who came to reveal love to a world held captive by its opposite. If love moves “everything toward resurrection” that means that love is life-giving and its opposite is death-dealing. Anything that is not love is death.

This is a staggering thought as we continue through a period of months, years, perhaps decades of death-dealing in our lives. Isolation. Division. Wars. Pandemics. Injustice. Riots. Insurrections. In this wake we find ourselves not only needing to give love but to receive it as well. Into this void steps Jesus, seeking to embrace and heal us. He stands in solidarity with us in the midst of our suffering and despair and offers us the love of the dearest friend we will ever have. Through this experience, we learn the healing power of love and are empowered to share this love with others and stand in solidarity with all others in their suffering and despair.

As you deal with the troubles you are currently facing in your life, know Christ is with you. Christ loves you. And that love overcomes death and gives you life.

Grace and peace,

Rev. J.D. Allen
Senior Pastor

EPHESIANS 3:18

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
