Senior Adult Services (SAS)

ukelele with flowersAt 85 years old, Mr. Long relocated to the Carrollton area to be close to a cousin, his only living relative. In completely new surroundings, Mr. Long had some challenges but his cousin had no idea what services were available, so the senior apartment complex manager referred him to Senior Adult Services. The Case Manger went to his home where she learned that although he still has a car, Mr. Long finds it difficult to get around in a new city and he was happy to learn that our Transportation program can take him shopping, to appointments, and on social outings. Mr. Long is in fairly good health, but the Case Manager noted that his apartment did not have grab bars in the bathroom and made arrangements to have those installed. His main health issue is hearing loss, and the Case Manager helped him obtain a hearing device for his phone so he can have regular contact with his cousin.

To help Mr. Long become more comfortable in his new apartment, the Case Manager arranged for a Friendly Visitor to call on him three times a week and by signing him up for Home Delivered Meals, she ensured that those volunteers will perform the added service of a wellness check whenever they deliver a hot midday meal. Mr. Long was happy to learn about all the services SAS provides, and was able to mark off most of the items on his list of needs as the Case Manager was either able to resolve them or had referrals ready for him. He was glad to get the list of specialty doctors that can treat his medical conditions and was informed about a state program that will allow someone to come to his home and help him take care of housekeeping chores.

Very independent at 85, Mr. Long appreciated the Case Manger’s help in organizing his important documents into a file cabinet which he placed close to his favorite chair for easy access. With respect for his preferences as well as his needs, the Case Manager was able to help him feel more at home in his new home and he was relieved to know that he has someone to call if he needs more assistance in the future.

The Blessing of God for the People of God

The Aaronic prayer—the prayer of the high priest for the blessing of God to come upon the people of God—was actually dictated by God Himself. He told Aaron through Moses what and how he should pray…and it is one of the most precious and powerful prayers in the entire Bible.

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. So shall they put My name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them” (Numbers 6:22-27).
