Children’s Corner Update: November 8, 2013

Children's Corner with Dawn Self

putting up Christmas decorTime to prepare for the food pantry collection.

The children will be building a Succoth booth in the sanctuary on November 10, 2013, during Sunday school.

The non-perishable food collected will go to the Metrocrest Food Pantry.

The elementary children’s mission trip to deliver the food and help out at Metrocrest will be Monday, November 25, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Children who have school on that day should come straight to the church from school. The van will leave at 3:20 p.m. to go to Metrocrest. We are scheduled to leave Metrocrest at 5:30 p.m. There will be a family dinner afterwards. Please sign up for each activity at the hall table or email Dawn Self.

Succoth Booth Collection for Metrocrest

Are you wondering what to bring for Metrocrest? Some of us volunteered at Metrocrest food pantry last Saturday and noticed that they had some needs. They really need household items like dish detergent and laundry soap; they ran out completely when we were there. They need diapers in size 2-5 only. Do not get newborn or 35 lbs+; they have plenty of those. They need beans, both dried and canned. They didn’t have any jelly, but were okay on peanut butter. I’m sure they can use both. Breakfast cereal and juice are both popular items that were running low. They can always use canned meat, soup, and vegetables. I’d suggest mixed vegetables, but any kind is good. Baking items like flour were running out quickly. They can use condiments too; seasonings and salad dressing are especially useful.

Feel free to bring any non-perishable item that you have or that you think they’d need. If you are getting it from your pantry or the discount shelf at the store, please check to make sure that it is not past the sell-by date.

Also, a very important thing to remember is that any items need to be regular household size or smaller, not the giant size. They can’t really separate it out for different families. Please do not get the giant bottles or cans from a club store. A case of smaller cans or boxes that include labels on each item is fine.

Everything is appreciated, but hopefully this will help you choose items that are truly needed.
