Rev. Mai Le

Hello Chapel Hill,

“The Church is blessed to be a blessing; you are blessed to be a blessing.”

This thought has kept playing in my mind ever since I was called to be in the ministry of the ordained. The Gospel lesson last Sunday brings up the promise of being blessed again when Jesus turns the social convention of his time on its head, challenges the status quo, and reveals nothing less than a socially revolutionary vision of God’s Kingdom. Help those who are oppressed and the have-nots, Jesus said, then you will be blessed.

In ministry, I found out that if we live with this vision in our daily life, little by little, and one day at a time, our prayer, “Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done” is carried out in the most meaningful way.

The Chapel Hill building is older than many other churches in the area, yet, there are always activities going on that require the use of the building. We are able to house the German ISD, to actively engage in the life-changing Project Transformation (PT) Summer Program, the PT after-school program, the square dance groups, the coin club, the Spanish-speaking congregation, and more. You and I know that the work of ministry is the work of the whole church; however, when it comes to the stewardship of the church building, I don’t see how we could have done what we have done without Larry Rains and Bill Kaphengst.

Just for the two short months that I have been here, I have seen these two faithful men being a blessing to others. When something breaks down at the church you call Bill, you call Larry. When you need to make a decision as to who can use the building, you call Larry. If you don’t know what the problem is with your car, you call Larry! When the classrooms are flooded, call Bill or Larry! When you don’t know who to call, you call Bill and Larry.

So, all I want to say here to these two unsung heroes is, thank you from the bottom of my heart. And if you see them, please give them a word of appreciation and a very Happy Eightieth Birthday to Bill!

You both are beloved children of God and we truly are so blessed to have you.

~ Mai
