Once again, Chapel Hill members have come through for a very important tradition for our congregation: LAITY SUNDAY. If you missed last Sunday, you missed a very special service. Laity Sunday is a calendared service on the official church calendar, usually in the middle of October. Chapel Hill, unlike many other Methodist congregations, has elected to have a special service completely planned and presented by our laity. The process begins with the Lay Leader asking a diverse group of members to be part of the planning process and then after meeting and planning the service, those devoted disciples put the bulletin together with the blessing of the staff.
On Sunday, there was a diverse group of men, women, children and youth of all ages involved in the service. One of the important parts of the service is the lay speaker, in this case, our beloved choir director, Lamar Smith, who gave you an excellent message. Now we all have a new way to pray: sing a hymn. I’m sure God is pleased with that idea. If you have ever put together an entire service as this group did, you really appreciate our staff that does this weekly. So next time you see any of the individuals who participated in last Sunday’s service, give them a BIG THANK YOU and maybe even a HUG.
Chapel Hill is indeed blessed to have such a loving, caring and sharing congregation.
