Kids in a BoxDearest Chapel Hill UMC Congregation,

Our second annual Kids in a Box Event was a splendid success! God is so good! Thanks to you, we were able to collect over $500 to support birthday parties for children in shelters. The weather was perfect for building Box City and playing and camping in it! Twelve youth participated in activities that helped to instill a sense of empathy for those who don’t have the comforts of home and family that we do. It was a meaningful touchstone. It was also an opportunity for the kids to enjoy each other’s company and have a lot of fun as well!

Special thanks to:

Kaye Bandy for spending the entire event with us…chaperoning, facilitating, preparing food and cleaning up, camping out in her own Box, and joining on our morning hike!

Jim Hanigan for being our most faithfully present and willing volunteer and serving in any capacity where there was a need of any kind!

Kids in a BoxBill and Patsy Kaphengst for being Mr. and Mrs. Tool-time! And also to Tim Harlow and Charles Self for encouraging and assisting the kids during Box City Assembly!

Karyn Harlow for providing a ton of fabulous food for the evening meal! Rob Tolle for grilling hotdogs!

UMM and Kaye Bandy and Pat Khoury for the out-of-this-world early morning breakfast! Rachel Tolle for creating exciting scavenger hunts and serving dinner!

Roger Romine for his vigilant grounds patrol and late night chaperoning; Amy Swanson for joining in with the kids in their games!

Kelly Page for giving us all an opportunity to gaze at the moon through her telescope! Charles Self for being our overnight guardian angel!

Kids in a BoxSammy Christlieb for assisting with the night shift and the hike! Roger Romine, Tim Harlow, and all the other parents who made the tear-down speedy and efficient!

Craig Davis for making the lunch run! Kathy Bandy and Dawn Self for filling in all the little chaperoning gaps and being an eternal source of support!

Pastor Mai and congregation members for taking the time to stop by! Everyone who contributed donations!

With much love and appreciation,
Heidi Tolle, CHUMC Youth Director
