At least 18 U.S.P.S. mail tubs full of books were delivered to Cabell Elementary on Tuesday, June 3. Many thanks to Half Price Books for donating all the wonderful books for children’s Summer Reading. And many thanks to our Outreach Team members who sorted through hundreds of books and organized them by grade and reading level and then counted the books needed for each class!!

The more a child reads during their Summer break from school the more of their reading level and efficiency they will retain. At the end-of-school awards assemblies Dr. Hughes, Cabell Elementary Principal, talked with the students and their parents about how important it is for children to continue reading during the summer.
“It was wonderful hearing the teachers saying “Thank you for the books.” “This is so kind of you.” when they received the books for their classes. Ms. Derse, 2nd grade teacher par excellence, thanked me several times. Her “students were excited to about their new books.”
