July 30, 2014: Note from Pastor Mai

Pastor MaiWith the 2014 onsite Project Transformation (PT) coming to closure, I’d like to thank you for making this project very special and meaningful for all who were involved, including the children who came, their families, the interns, and volunteers from the partner churches. None of this would have been possible without the time and efforts of Chapel Hill members and staff. To you, who give and work in the background, sustaining the church operation, as well as those who are visible everyday reading for the children, helping the PT interns, or managing the day-to-day business of being a PT site church, I thank you and I thank God for you. Your dedication with gifts of time and resources speak volumes of your faith and your calling.

With July on its way out and August on the horizon, let’s look at what is ahead. Our calendar shows VBS, GISD school start, back to school projects and various events surrounding the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year, including the youth back-to-school bask and backpack drive for Cabell Elementary.

Being present in this part of Farmers Branch and at the foot of the “walking bridge” over LBJ to Dallas, Chapel Hill is in a strategic position for mission work, something that is mandatory for the church of the first century and through the ages. We have our work cut out for us, don’t we? What we do are seeds of God’s love that we are called to plant in the garden of God’s Kingdom. It reminds me of the parable of the sower that Jesus tells: “A sower went out to sow…” (Matthew 3b-8).

This parable describes a generous God, who sows seeds and hopes they grow. Some seeds catch on and grow vigorously to bring forth grain, but some don’t. However, God does not withhold the seeds but generously plants. As Jesus’ disciples, we are called to plant seeds. Although we don’t always see the results, we trust that God will take care of the growing in one way or another.

I believe Chapel Hill has been planting seeds. We do so to respond to our calling and I am thankful that you are with me as we journey through this part of life together.

~ Mai
