Lamar, you will be missed!

Lamar SmithSince March 2013, we have all had the privilege of listening to exceptional music from our choirs, under the direction of Lamar Smith.

Little did we know at that time, the extent of his talent and dedication to our music ministry.

In his year as the Chapel Hill Music Director, we have been treated to outstanding solos by many of our talented choir members, enhancement on many occasions by additional string and brass instruments, and choir performances that have been spiritually and emotionally moving. Choir members and Handbell members alike will tell you that they have grown in their music knowledge and love of music because of Lamar.

Lamar came to us with outstanding credentials, being a 12-year veteran of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and the orchestra director at Newman Smith HS. In that capacity, he is extensively involved in student performances and the many things that go along with being a High School teacher in the Performing Arts. He is also a member and on the Board of Directors of several state music organizations. This is just a small portion of his many professional duties.

It is probably no surprise that because of these many responsibilities, he is resigning his position as our Music Director, effective Sunday, June 1, 2014. The choir had already been informed, and normally the SPR committee would have made this announcement publicly to the rest of the congregation this past Sunday, but because of the length of the Confirmation service, it was necessary to do the announcement this way.

There will be a reception for Lamar after church on June 1st and the choirs and SPR committee hope that everyone, who has had the privilege of listening to the music that he directed and inspired, will come and give him your best wishes and let him know that he may not be physically with us after that date, but the music he brought us will always be in our hearts and memories.

Sincerely,
Chapel Hill SPRC

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
