Youth Notes: January 10, 2014

Youth NotesDear Chapel Hill Family,

Happy New Year from your Youth! It is a good time to update you on what we’ve been up to and what we have planned in the early weeks of 2014!

Even though our youth Sunday was canceled due to icy conditions, we have put our Advent sermon skit merely on hold. It gives us time to bring you a new and improved version for Advent 2014, when we will present it jointly with the Children’s department for something extra special!

The Sunday prior to Christmas, about a dozen youth, children, and adults braved the cold weather to carol and chime at the doors of some dear shut-in members. It was our utter joy to do so!

On New Year’s Eve, 11 teens and 3 chaperones brought in 2014 with fellowship, food, games, and a time of reflection. We had a blast playing scooter soccer and marshmallow dodge ball among other interesting activities.

We continue in Youth Sunday School to work our way through the Old Testament, examining the Upper Story (God’s Plan) and the Lower Stories (events, characters, and their relationships with God). We began the New Year with a look at King David. We even tried our hand at writing our own Psalm… you can try it, too! Begin with being vulnerable… bear your soul to God… He’s not afraid of anything you feel or have to say! Then move on to give thanks for the blessings in your life. End with praise to God for his awesome traits and creations!

This month, we will be scheduling our visit to the Homeless Birthday Ministry of Paige Chenault. We will begin collecting canned goods for our 3rd annual Souper Bowl of Caring. We will plan a Valentine event that will raise funds for our group by offering parents a childcare option so they can go out on a Valentine date! Stay tuned for all the details!
