Youth Notes

On Wednesday, April 16, 2014, CHUMC Youth participated in the ministry of the Birthday Party Project. This is a ministry started by Paige Chenault, who spent time at Chapel Hill as the daughter of a former CHUMC staff member. Paige came and spoke to Chapel Hill one Sunday morning about two years ago, and the youth were inspired to raise Kids in a Box Funds for her ministry.

The Birthday Party Project takes place at sites all over the DFW area each month. Birthday parties are arranged for children who live in shelter situations. Volunteers come together to decorate a facility for the party, supervise party games, and they also donate individual birthday cakes and special gifts for each child who has a birthday in that month. The children bring friends and a big celebration takes place for kids who might not otherwise have a party at all. Some of these kids have never had a birthday party before.

With last fall’s Kids in a Box donation, Chapel Hill Youth provided 60 drawstring backpack bags full of small gifts for party participants. They also followed up with a $300 check to be used at the ministry’s discretion for party supplies, cakes, or gifts. Eight youth and three adults joined in the fun of an April party. They helped to decorate the party room and set up the cake table. Mary worked the stick-on tattoo station. Ian and Brayson helped kids plant spring flowers in small pots of soil. Jack, Taylor, Isaac, Lily, and Madeleine played a wacky egg race game with the kids and helped with crafts.

A big thanks to all who supported Kids in a Box; because of you, we were able to bless these sweet kids and give to a wonderful ministry.
