Pastor’s Message: Dec. 27, 2021

CHUMC Family,

Merry Christmas!

I hope this newsletter finds you refreshed by a joyous Christmas celebration or strengthened by God’s love if current circumstances have made Christmas difficult for you this year.

At Christmas we reflect on God’s love being revealed in the coming of the Christ, God’s Word, in the flesh. We also reflect on the coming return of the Christ when love will be revealed in all hearts as we join together in a Beloved Community of justice, mercy, and peace. Our holy scriptures point us to God’s Word so that we can know the Christ and God’s love more deeply everyday and grow in love as we mature.

As we approach a new calendar year, I wish to remind you of the opportunity we have to seek that spiritual growth and connection in 2022 as we read through our entire canon of scripture together. This can be done individually, though I do encourage you to enrich the experience by joining with a small group or a reading buddy. Think of it as a Bible Book Club.

There are multiple ways you can join in the reading schedule which begins on January 3:

  • Use The Bible Year Devotional. We have already purchased this book based on those who indicated interest. We did, however, purchase a few extra books and can always order more if you will let us know you want a copy. The cost is $19. Please let us know if you need help with the cost.
  • The 2022 Bible Reading and Worship Plan is printed and on the green table in the Narthex for you to take home with you.
  • You can also purchase The NRSV Daily Bible with essentially the same reading plan at cokesbury.com or anywhere else NRSV bibles are sold.
  • Each week’s readings will be shared in the Sunday bulletin and the weekly newsletter.

May we be in prayer for one another, our local church, and our community as we seek the Christ together.

Grace and peace,

Rev. J.D. Allen

EPHESIANS 3:18

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
