Did You Know Melissa Sky-Eagle?

If you have been in church in person or online in the past three months, you have experienced the beautiful music of our most recent staff member: Melissa Sky-Eagle. Melissa came to our church family 3 months ago as our choir director/pianist/organist and we feel truly blessed.

She recently bought a home next door to her parents in Arlington where she grew up. She has lived in Los Angeles, California for the past 18 years. She comes by her musical talent honestly, since her parents were both in musical ministry. She was homeschooled and traveled with them extensively. She had been on 5 continents by the time she was 10 years old and still loves to travel.

Her dad is a member of the Grand Traverse Band of the Ottawa and Chippewa. Their reservation and tribal headquarters are located in Michigan. Her mother is English and Cajun French and is from Southwest Texas. Melissa is an only child.

She certainly has an impressive resume with 3 degrees in piano performance from Texas Christian University, Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Southern California.

She loves working in theaters as a musical director and hopes to get in the DFW Theater scene. Perhaps she will be involved in The Firehouse Theater in Farmers Branch!

She is a career musician and pianist having played the piano since she was nine years old. At the present time, she is a staff member for the Irving ISD at Irving High School, Austin Middle School, and Crockett Middle School. Although she is a pianist, she has a passion for working with singers, especially students and volunteer singers. As she says, “I love helping others find their voice.” Already the choir is enjoying her presence as she helps them bring quality music to CHUMC. If possible she would like to resume the handbells. Anyone interested?

She certainly is staying busy but still loves to relax with friends and family. Much of her time right now is spent setting up her new house. However, she looks forward to enjoying her hobbies: going to museums, taking road trips, traveling, coloring, making art, reading books, and going to shows.

Melissa obviously has a lot of energy and uses it in productive ways.  As stated previously, Chapel Hill is truly blessed to have Melissa as part of our church family. Next time you see her, be sure to welcome her and express how much you enjoy her music.

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
