Pastor’s Message: Feb. 21, 2022

CHUMC Family,

You may not realize it, but the Lenten season is just around the corner starting on March 2 with Ash Wednesday. I pray you will join us for our traditional Ash Wednesday Break Fast and worship at 6 pm on March 2.

Our Break Fast will follow a day of fasting as we start Lent for those who are able to safely fast from food for the day as we reflect on our mortality and human sinfulness to start Lent. If you are unable to fast from food due to your health there may be some other item(s) you can fast from on this day, such as coffee and chocolate, or some daily activity you feel you “cannot live without.” The purpose of fasting is to disrupt our routines and help us remember we can rely on God and God alone for our needs. While the Break Fast will not be online, you can participate at home. We will break our fast with bread and fruit and juices when we gather at 6 pm. You can prepare ahead of time to break your fast at the same time if you are unable to join us in person.

We are also still in need of volunteers to help plan and implement our break Fast so please contact the office if you can be a part of the team.

Ash Wednesday worship will start about 6:45 pm and will be available in person and online. We look forward to joining with you as we journey toward renewing and deepening our discipleship during this Lenten season.

Grace and peace,

Rev. J.D. Allen
