April 25, 2014: Did You Know? Jimmy and Edrese Hanigan

We have an awesome mother and son team at Chapel Hill. Edrese and Jimmy Hanigan have been servant leaders in Chapel Hill for many years. Edrese joined CHUMC in 1971 and Jimmy joined in 1975 and they have been workers in the church ever since that time.

Edrese HaniganEdrese was born in Silver City, NM, almost 90 years ago and has lived in Farmers Branch for 43 years. She came to Chapel Hill because it was the closest Methodist church to her home. She was a homemaker and a volunteer in many capacities as she raised her three children. In addition to her three children, she has three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She taught Sunday School in El Paso and has helped with VBS and Children’s Christmas Workshop for many years at CHUMC. She is currently a member of the Cokesbury/HUB Sunday School Class and has served as communion steward for 15 years. She has been a member of the United Methodist Women for 65 years joining when it was WSCS and served in El Paso, Phoenix, and New Orleans before joining the Chapel Hill UMW. She is currently a member of the Mary Martha Circle and has served as an officer of the UMW, including President. She is a member of our choir and hand bell choir. She learned to play the bells in Phoenix. She is very active in our community belonging to the Model T Ford Club and the Dixie Chambers square dancing club. She has volunteered at the Dallas Medical Center (formerly known as Brookhaven and RHD Hospital) for 42 years. Her hobbies include reading, knitting, crocheting, and square dancing.

Jimmy HaniganJimmy was born in El Paso, Texas, and is currently our Sunday School Clerk and assists Barbara Tatum with elementary Sunday School Class. He has helped with VBS, Children’s Christmas Workshop, and chaperoned youth trips as well as taking photos of the new members. He also helps run our church Sound System, serves on the Board of Trustees, and is a member of the Holy Folders. He is active in the community as a member of the Citizens on Patrol for the Farmers Branch Police Department. He was our church custodian in 1985-89 and is our church building security watchman, opening the church as needed and closing the church each evening. His hobbies include ice skating, clogging, and computers. Ask Jimmy sometime about the medals he has won in various competitions.

We are blessed to have both Jimmy and Edrese as part of the Chapel Hill extended family.
