Children’s Christmas Workshop

Children in 1st – 5th grade are invited.
Children’s Christmas Workshop is a long tradition at Chapel Hill UMC. It is an inter-generational event where members of the congregation offer a craft workshop for children to buy kits and make crafts for Christmas gifts. This teaches our children the power and joy of giving. At the end of the event, the kids have a bag full of wrapped gifts to give and a huge smile on their faces. For the volunteers, it gives a time to work with kids in the congregation or from the community. It is just one morning, but the planning is done well in advance so that all volunteers are prepared and ready to go when the kids show up. It is an impressive and well-organized activity that is meaningful to the children, families, and to the volunteers.
This year, we are asking for a few new faces. We need a few people to work as helpers at tables that have already been organized and planned. You do not necessarily need to be crafty. You do need to be able to sit at a table and assist children with simple instruction and encouragement or to sell tickets to children as they decide on each craft. It is almost time to prepare for the food pantry collection.
The children will be building a Succoth booth in the sanctuary in November during Sunday School. They will be collecting non-perishable food for Metrocrest Food Pantry. The elementary children’s mission trip to deliver the food and help out at Metrocrest will be on Monday, November 24, 2014. More information about the delivery and what we will be collecting will be in the newsletter.
