Sack Summer Hunger is a pilot program of Metrocrest Social Services in conjunction with area churches and supporters to provide sacks of easy-to-prepare food each week this summer. When school ends in May, so do healthy breakfasts and lunches for many local students.
An average sack will include bread, peanut butter, jelly, yogurt cups, Nutri-Grain bars, oranges, bananas and cheese sticks–all for an average of $5 per sack. From unloading boxes to sorting fruit and delivering sacks of food, there are volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups (including teens!) to help this summer in the new Sack Summer Hunger initiative.
There will be a sign-up sheet available that will have a brief description of the work areas and the dates when volunteers are needed. The first work day is June 6th and the last Saturday for distribution is July 28th. Please plan to be a part of this exciting new outreach opportunity that directly affects our community.
