April 4, 2014: Did You Know? Kandy Burdette

Kandy BurdetteKandy Burdette is a true Texan, having been born in Tulia, Texas and graduating from Plano High School.

She was invited to visit Chapel Hill in 1973 with her husband Dennis and joined in 1974. They became very active and worked with the Youth for over 20 years.

She has taught Children’s Sunday School and is presently one of a team of teachers giving their time to teach our children grades K-5. She has been a part of the VBS team for many years as well as working with the Children’s Christmas Workshop. Our children are blessed to be able to have such a loving teacher each Sunday. When not teaching, she is a member of Class Menagerie which she helped start many years ago. She is presently on the Outreach Committee and participates in their many projects, including the Bridge.

She is retired and spends much of her time as a potter. She has generously donated beautiful pieces of her pottery at our many fundraisers, and also sells them at various arts and craft fairs. She presently teaches a pottery class at Carrollton Senior Center. She also helped start our Farmers Branch Community Garden and continues to nurture and grow many various vegetables. She is one of the team leaders who organizes the collection and distribution of food from our garden each week for the Metrocrest Food Bank. She volunteers much of her time at the Metrocrest Food Pantry which distributes food to the needy. She is a member of the Chloe Circle of the United Methodist Women and has served in many roles including President.

Kandy has two adult children, Sherry and Russell, and one daughter-in-law, Amy. You may hear her talking about her trips to Knoxville where her daughter lives to visit her grandson Sam. She is always happy to share her photos and stories with others.

Chapel Hill is blessed to have Kandy as a part of our Chapel Hill extended family. The care and love that she shares with us and others makes our world a better place.
