Mission Trip & Wall of Money Fundraiser Information

Hello everyone,

On February 28th, fundraising for our Summer mission trips begin! Before I tell you about the fundraiser, let me share a little bit about the trips.

UM ARMY

We are proud to announce that our Mission Trips this Summer will be coordinated with UM Army. UM Army is a United Methodist organization that works to help repair houses. The trips include numerous churches and have a tremendous impact on those who are served and those who attend. As someone who has been on a UM Army trip as an adult leader, I can say from personal experience that the trips are well organized, safe, life-changing, and a ton of fun! There will be morning devotions and nightly worship, as well as a big event on the last night (the year I went, it was “Tacky Prom”!) I have seen many students create deep, personal bonds with others in their group and gain life-changing experiences with God that have impacted them deeply.

We are taking two trips this year, one for Middle School and one for High School. The Middle School trip will be from July 3-July 7 in Corpus Christi, TX, and the High School dates are still being deliberated by parents, students, and me.

FUNDRAISING

Sunday, February 28th kicks off our Wall of Money Fundraiser! The “wall” will be located in the Narthex every Sunday from February 28th-March 20th. It will contain 100 envelopes decorated by the youth labeled $1 to $100. Inside each envelope will be a trip-related prayer request written by a youth and a donation card to turn in. Contestants will pick a number based on how much they would like to donate and turn it in with their money to the youth-led donation table. They will hold on to their prayer card and use it to pray for the youth throughout their trip. Contestants may pick as many envelopes as they would like. This way all donations, no matter how humble or grandeur, can make a difference! The youth will be in charge of collecting money and promoting the fundraiser to members of the church.

GOALS AND COST

Both trips will cost $50 per person (including adult volunteers). If all youth on my roster attended, this would add up to $1,000. Our trip will also include the cost of 4 van rentals- one on the way two and from each trip. We will also most likely need to purchase basic construction tools for the youth to use while they are on the trip, first aid supplies, background checks for adult volunteers, and possibly more. This being said, the exact cost of our trips are extremely flexible at the moment. However, our fundraiser has the possibility of raising $5050. In the event that we raise more than is needed for the trip, the remaining funds will go towards either the youth budget or an event for those who donated.

That’s all I have for now! Stay tuned for more information about the date and location of the high school trip, and be sure to check out the Wall of Money on February 28th!
