Pastor’s Message: September 21st, 2020

Merciful. Gracious. Slow to anger. Abounding in ad keeping steadfast love. Faithful. Forgiving.

These are the attributes of God mentioned in Exodus 34:6-7, which we discussed in Sunday’s sermon. We face trying days in 2020. The doubts may arise. Maybe our thoughts have turned inward, focused on ourselves to the neglect of others. Maybe our fear or disdain of others has grown. We’re lonely. Perhaps depressed. Can we trust in the way God has forged for us? Or should we go our own way?

Perhaps these thoughts and struggles have led to things we regret. We have failed to be faithful disciples because we, like the Israelities, in the hunger in the wilderness, doubted what God promised. We may have hurt those close to us with our words. Spoke in dehumanizing ways of those who frustrated.

Well, look at the words that began this piece. They describe our God in relationship. God is there for us. Embrace that today. Repent. Ask forgiveness. And start this journey anew, with the holiness of God’s love leading the way.

Grace and peace,

Rev. J.D. Allen
Senior Pastor
