Pastor’s Message: June 7, 2021

CHUMC Family,

As things continue to ramp back up to speed at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, I have two bits of exciting news to share.

First, I invite us to offer our congratulations to our office manager Adam Richards, who was certified in the Metro District of the North Texas Conference as a candidate for ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church. As you may know, this is among the first milestones along a very long road to ordination. This milestone is also much harder to cross than it once was, so we have all the more reason to celebrate with Adam as they are now able to pursue the journey further. Adam has been serving as the Brookhaven campus ministry coordinator for Synergy Wesley and had been a vital cog in the work of Synergy Wesley at the University of Texas in Dallas when they were a student there. In both places, Adam has shown the gifts and graces to connect people with the love of Christ and bring people together, even amidst the pandemic at Brookhaven. We have partnered with Synergy Wesley at Brookhaven College in some small but significant ways which makes this moment all the more celebratory for us and Adam as we continue to support and pray for them and Synergy Wesley as they continue to connect with a diverse group of young people the church in the West at large has faced increasing difficulty in reaching.

Second, Project Transformation’s Summer Camp is in person and now in session. It is a joyful time as a group of young interns are in our hallways most days of the week showing the love of God to the children of our neighborhood. Please keep our interns in your prayers: Adrienne-Sinclair McIntosh (Site Coordinator), Nicholas Alexander, Brett Kelley, Ayanna Levingston, Brandon McCormick, Keza Muvunyi, Kayla Rose. Sydni Smith, and Lizzy Wolcott. Feel free to stop by before or after summer camp hours and say, “Hello!” to our interns. Just be sure and wear a mask as masks are still required in Project Transformation. I have even gathered their Sonic drink preferences if you would like to surprise them with a treat. Just check with the office before you do, so we do not double up on any particular day.

Grace and peace,

Rev. J.D. Allen

EPHESIANS 3:18

I wish above all things that you may know how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for you.
