Sanctuary Team Update: July 5, 2013

Your Sanctuary Team has worked diligently over the past year to discuss and make subtle improvements in our beautiful sanctuary. We have consulted with a sacred space design architect, Steve Madison, friend of JoNell’s and with Fred Christen, master cabinet maker.

Members include Bitsy Laney, Nancy Putnam, Nancy Hartman, Martha Lusk, Faye Chapman, Roxanne Rawdon, Janie Fuller, Faye Chapman, JoNell Lindh, and Larry Rains.

Have you noticed any of these changes in the Sanctuary?

  • The half-wall panels have been re-installed at the altar area; the one on the left nicely hides the projector table.
  • A light sage green paint has replaced the white paint that blends nicely with the brick. Painting was done by the craftsmen of Christ’s Foundry UMC.
  • Two beautiful banners are hung on the back walls that were made and donated by Linda Zucconi.
  • The large black speakers located at the ends of the altar rails have been moved into the overhead cabinets in the choir loft.
  • Speaker cabinet covers have been replaced with a light brown fabric.
  • The choir risers have been moved forward to improve the lighting for the back row of the choir.
  • A larger cross made out of pine was created to back our existing cross. This new cross was designed and made by Fred Christen. Larry Rains and JoNell Lindh stained the new cross and attached the existing cross to the new cross. The Christ Foundry team hung the new cross. The cross is now suspended from the back beam rather than attached to the wall.
  • Lights on the two front beams of the church have been adjusted to: 1) light the cross more dramatically, 2) improve the lighting for the lectern, 3) improve the lighting for the pulpit, and 4) reduce the glare of the lights in front of the altar rails. Joel Rangel and Larry Rains readjusted our existing lighting to work better for us.

The team is now exploring options for replacing the carpeting and a decision about this will be made in a few days.

We hope that you are pleased with the changes that have been made to enhance our sanctuary.
